ROBUSTIMPACT - Robust impact design of steel and composite building structures
Steel and steel-concrete composite members provide excellent resistance to impact loadings due to their high bearing capacity and excellent ductility, which lead to a high capacity of energy dissipation. However, steel and composite vertical members have not yet been utilised to their full potential due to lack of appropriate investigations. Former impact investigations on steel members basically looked at the member behaviour itself and neglected the influence of the supports and the surrounding structure. Within this project experimental, analytical and numerical investigations are performed to enhance the current design methods for steel members subjected to impact loads.
